HOUSTON, Texas – A Sunday afternoon women's soccer match on the road for East Texas Baptist University ended in a tie with the University of St. Thomas Texas, 1-1. ETBU is now 2-2-1 on the year.
Both teams did their scoring in the first half and shots were almost even. ETBU took 12 shots with seven on goal while UST had 11 shots and six on goal.
Sarah Ramos led ETBU with a goal, four shots, and one shot on goal.
Makayla Baxter followed with three shots as all were on goal.
Cadence Tischler recorded five saves giving up one goal.
Ramos started off the match with a shot in the third minute and then scored ETBU's long goal in the ninth minute (8:49) for the 1-0 lead. Nine minutes later, UST tied the match at one on their first shot of the match. ETBU had four more shots on goal in the half but all were stopped by UST. Baxter had her first shot on goal in the 21
st minute and then
Hannah Purl followed in the 26
th minute for the third shot on goal in the half. Baxter's second shot on goal came in the 36
th minute and
Jordyn Vitale finished the half with a shot on goal at 43:25. Tischler stopped two UST shots in the 24
th minute as they had three shots on goal.
ETBU only had two shots on goal in the second half as Baxter took on in the 65 minute that just missed.
Grace Shurley had the final shot on goal in the 78
th minute. UST finished with three shots on goal in the half as Tischler stopped all three in the 47
th, 59
th, and 81
st minutes. UST did have one final shot in the 90
th minute that but it went above the goal.
ETBU next plays on Friday in Georgetown, Texas, against Southwestern University at 7:30 p.m.
