MARSHALL, Texas – A second-half momentum shift led to Hardin-Simmons University's 5-0 win over East Texas Baptist University in the American Southwest Conference for men's soccer. ETBU is now 6-4 and 1-1 in the ASC.
ETBU took 19 shots but put only four on goal, all of which were saved. HSU had 13 shots with 10 on goal, scoring five.
Regan Trojacek had six shots with three on goal, and
Bryan Carrillo had one shot on goal.
Ryan Lord recorded five saves.
In a close first half, HSU scored early in the 10
th minute for a 1-0 lead. ETBU took seven shots to HSU's four in the half. Trojacek had a chance to tie the match in the 11
th minute after HSU took the 1-0 lead, but his shot was saved. That was the only shot on goal for the half of ETBU's seven shots.
ETBU came out strong in the second half with shots on goal in the 47
th and 54
th minutes from Trojacek. ETBU took seven shots in the first eight minutes of the half but couldn't find the net. In the 64
th minute, after heated play between both teams involving cards, HSU extended their lead to 2-0. Four minutes later, they made it 3-0. They then posted back-to-back goals in the 84
th and 85
th minutes, making it 5-0.
ETBU will play on Saturday, Oct. 5, at 7:30 p.m. at LeTourneau.
