#TIGERSWIN | VB | ETBU Sweeps UTD For 21st Straight Win in Ornelas Gym

MARSHALL, Texas – In a defensive-laden match, no. 13 East Texas Baptist University swept the University of Texas Dallas, 3-0 (25-15, 25-19, 24-13), winning their 21st straight home match. ETBU is now 14-1 on the year and has won 13 matches in a row.
 
ETBU had 49 digs and 13 combined blocks in the win. Callie Humphrey recorded 21 digs, and Grace Williamson added four blocks. ETBU hit .143 with 33 kills as Avery Reid and Hannah Perry both led the team with seven kills. McKenzie Mansell recorded 16 assists. ETBU also had eight service aces with two from Reid, Humphrey, and Mansell.
 
UTD took a quick 3-0 lead in set one, but ETBU tied it on a kill from Anita Hancock, a Reid service ace, and a UTD error. Tied at five, two UTD errors and a Mansell service put ETBU up 8-5. A Perry kill made it, 10-6, but UTD battled back to pull within one, 12-11. Five straight points by ETBU put the momentum back to the Tigers with three UTD attack errors, a Reid service ace, and Raylynn Pitts kill, making it 17-11. Another Mansell service ace gave ETBU a seven-point lead, 20-13, and then four straight points, three from UTD errors, and Graycee Mosley service ace gave the Tigers a 10-point lead, 24-14. Perry ended set one on a kill for the 25-15 win.
 
Set had two ties in the first six points. Tied at three, ETBU scored three straight points on a kill from Hancock and two UTD attack errors (6-3). ETBU scored four more points making it 10-4 with two kills from Reid and Perry. Another 4-0 run put the lead at nine, 14-5, with kills from Perry and Mansell and a Sadie Kasowski service ace. Maddison Harris gave ETBU an 11-point lead, 17-6, on a kill. UTD battled back to within five, 21-16, and 24-19, but a Mosley kill ended the set, 25-19.
 
Trailing the entire set, ETBU had to battle back from being eight down. UTD opened up with a 5-0 lead and went up 12-4. UTD made it 17-11, but three Comet errors put ETBU at three, 17-14. UTD moved their lead to four, 20-16, and was up 21-18 late in the set. Two more UTD errors put ETBU within one, 21-20, but UTD scored the next two points on Tiger errors for a three-point lead, 23-20. That was the last point scored by UTD as ETBU rallied for five straight points and the sweep win. Two kills by Mosley, a Humphrey service ace, and two UTD attack errors ended the match as ETBU took the sweep, 3-0.
 
Next weekend, ETBU will travel to West Texas and face Hardin-Simmons in Abilene and Howard Payne in Brownwood on Friday and Saturday.
