RICHARDSON, Texas – In the final meeting of the two programs, the University of Texas Dallas defeated East Texas Baptist University, 84-48. ETBU is now 6-14 on the year.
Colin Roberts led the team with 13 points and four rebounds.
Jason Justice scored eight points and five assists, and
Josh Joe added six points and five rebounds.
ETBU shot 31 percent from the floor, 21 percent from the arc, and 57 percent from the line. UTD made 51 percent of their shots, 50 percent from the arc, and 80 percent from the line. UTD outrebounded ETBU, 48-21.
The first half was the closest for ETBU as they trailed by 11 at the half, 38-27.
Joshua R Davis had a three-pointer at 13:40, giving ETBU a three-point lead, 8-5. With 8:49 left, Roberts hit a three-pointer as ETBU kept a three-point lead, 20-17.
Sedric Curry made a free throw at 8:07 to keep the lead at two, 21-19. In the next four minutes, UTD went on a 14-0 run for a 12-point lead, 33-21. Curry cut the lead back to nine, 36-27, with 59 seconds left, but UTD scored a layup just before the half ended for the 11-point lead.
UTD had a strong second half, outscoring ETBU, 46-21. ETBU shot just 25 percent and made one three-pointer.
ETBU will face LeTourneau University on Thursday in Longview, Texas, at 7:30 p.m. in ASC play.
