BROWNWOOD, Texas – Earning their third shutout of the year and first American Southwest Conference win, East Texas Baptist University went on the road to Brownwood, Texas, for a 3-0 victory over Howard Payne University, 3-0, at Citizens National Bank Field. ETBU is now 7-6-1 and 1-1-1 in the ASC.
Three different Tigers found the back of the net as ETBU dominated, offensively, out shooting the Yellow Jackets 16-5, including six shots on goal.
Lars Clark,
Brenden Gajewski, and
Junior Lopez each recorded three shots to lead the Tigers, while
Joshua Daley added two second-half attempts.
Brian Boyles,
Dawson Lopez, Jabir Befikir,
Jared Zuniga, and
Lucas Arreguin each contributed one shot. Clark, Lopez, and Daley collected the goals.
Ryan Lord had two saves earning his third shutout of the year.
Clark opened the scoring in the 8th minute off an assist from Gajewski to give ETBU the early lead, 1-0. The Tigers extended their advantage just after halftime when Lopez scored in the 47th minute on an assist from
Dawson Lopez. Daley sealed the win with a penalty kick in the 87th minute to put the game out of reach.
The Tigers return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 16, when they travel to Batesville, Ark., to face Lyon College. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
