MARSHALL, Texas — Playing through a lightning delay on Saturday night, East Texas Baptist University dropped a tough American Southwest Conference matchup to Hardin-Simmons University, 3-1. ETBU is now 5-4-3 and 1-3 in the ASC.
ETBU took seven shots with six on goal as
Caroline Smith had a goal.
Bryanne Izaguirre had two shots on goal to lead the team. Cadence Tishler recorded four saves for the Tigers, who finished with seven total shots six of them on goal.
Madelynne Miller also saw time in the net for 10 minutes. HSU took nine shots with seven on goal, scoring three.
The Cowgirls jumped out to a quick lead in the fourth minute when and then extended their lead to 2-0 in 14th minute. HSU's final goal of the match came in the 32nd minute to make it 3-0 before halftime. Six minutes before halftime, the match went into over an hour lightning delay before play resumed.
ETBU was limited to just two shots in the first half, with
Mallory Duncan taking a strike in the 23rd minute and
Paige Barclay adding another in the 39th. The Tigers came out more aggressive in the second half, totaling five shots.
Ryan McClain had a shot on goal in the 54
th minute and Izaguire followed in the 55
th minute as both were stopped. Izaguire had her second shot on goal in the 88
th minute just before Smith scored in the final seconds making it 3-1.
ETBU returns to action next Saturday, Oct. 25, traveling to Belton, Texas, to face the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor at 5 p.m.
