MARSHALL, Texas - It has been 10 years since East Texas Baptist University won their first American Southwest Conference men's basketball championship. On Saturday, October 25, that team returned to Ornelas Gym to celebrate their championship they won 10 years ago. That team won 26 games, posted a 10-game winning streak, had a 22-game win streak in Ornelas Gym, and started off 8-0. They defeated Concordia Texas in front of over 1,500 fans for the ASC championship, hosted the NCAA Division III first and second rounds with wins over Hendrix College and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, and advanced to the Elite 8. They won their Sweet 16 game over Northwestern (MN), and fell in the Elite 8 to eventual National Champion UW Stevens Point. Bert West was the ASC Coach of the Year and D3Hoops South Region Coach of the Year.
