MBB | ETBU Turnovers Costly Falling to CTX on Road

AUSTIN, Texas – Turnovers were the difference in the game as East Texas Baptist University tried to come from behind as Concordia University Texas held off the Tigers, 100-89. ETBU turned the ball over 18 times as CTX scored 31 fast break points with 26 points off turnovers.
 
Shad Levy led ETBU with 23 points going 9-of-10 from the free throw line and grabbing five rebounds. Michael Roberts finished with 15 points and six rebounds as Jack Pease gave 12 points with nine assists. Orlando Gooden II had 14 points followed by Nathan Fleming's 11 points. ETBU shot 54 percent from the floor but made just four three-pointers going 19-of-26 from the line. CTX made 55 percent of their shots with seven three-pointers. ETBU out rebounded CTX, 34-30.
 
CTX opened the first half with a 6-0 lead and didn't look back leading from the beginning. By the 13:18 mark, they had a 10-point lead, 21-11. Fleming had a dunk at 11:10 to trim the lead to six, 23-17, but two minutes later CTX pushed their advantage to 12, 33-21. At 7:29, ETBU was down 16 points, 39-23, but came with in 10, 56-46, at the half on a Levy jumper with 21 seconds left.
 
ETBU cut the lead to six, 61-55, just four minutes into the second half on a Roberts layup. Roberts then put ETBU within three, 64-61, at 14:25 on another layup. By 12:27, CTX had a 9-2 run for a 10-point lead, 73-63. Levy had a tip-in at 12:07 cutting the lead to eight, 73-65, but that is as close as ETBU would come the rest of half as CTX won 100-89.
 
ETBU will be on the road next weekend as they travel to Maryville, Tenn., to face Covenant College on Friday and Maryville College on Saturday.
