IRVING, Texas – Giving up 11 three-pointers in the game, East Texas Baptist University trailed from the beginning of the game to the University of Dallas as they fell on the road to the Crusaders, 101-70. ETBU is now 3-11 as they head to the West Coast for the New Years.
Four student-athletes were in double figures as
Nathan Fleming led with 13 points and eight rebounds.
Christian Dews followed with 11 points as
Jack Pease and
Shad Levy added 10 points. Pease also gave seven assists.
ETBU was out rebounded, 43-33, and gave up 46 points in the paint with 26 points off turnovers. UD made 11 three-pointers (54 percent) while shooting 54 percent from the floor and 70 percent from the line. ETBU shot 40 percent making just five three-pointers (19 percent) and was 13-of-15 from the stripe.
Levy tied the game at two just over a minute into the game but UD went on a 11-2 run over four minutes for a 13-4 lead. UD was up by 21, 38-17, with 6:56 to go but ETBU did cut the lead to 12, 40-28, with 3:45 left. UD finished on an 8-3 run for a 17-point lead at the half, 48-31.
UD opened the second half on a 4-1 run for a 20-point lead, 50-32, but an
Orlando Gooden II layup at 14:10 cut the lead to 18, 61-43. Almost three minutes later, UD had a 32-point lead, 75-43, on a 16-0 run. The Crusaders didn't let off the gas as they took the game 101-70.
ETBU heads to California to face Occidental College on January 1 at 4:00 p.m. Central Time.
