MARYVILLE, Tenn. — A second half run from Maryville College ended any hopes of East Texas Baptist University's comeback win as they fell in Tennessee, 76-62. ETBU led 37-34 at halftime, but Maryville surged in the second half, outscoring the Tigers 42-26. ETBU is now 3-8 on the year.
Despite ETBU outrebounding Maryville, 41-35, The Scots nine 3-pointers and 17 points off turnovers proved decisive in securing the win. ETBU shot 40 percent from the floor, made just four three-pointers, and had nine free throws made. Maryville finished shooting 46 percent with the nine three-pointers and took eight free throws making five.
Tigers who lit up the scoreboard include
Jack Pease, who scored 13 points, including three 3-pointers, and recorded five rebounds.
Nathan Fleming added to the effort with 11 points and dominated the boards with 17 rebounds, also contributing a block and a steal.
Shad Levy posted 13 points and contributed two assists.
The Tigers opened the game with a strong offensive performance, taking an early lead with Levy scoring a jumper at 19:41 for the 2-0 lead. The team maintained its momentum, with Fleming hitting a 3-pointer at 18:24, assisted by Joshua Joe, to extend the advantage, 7-2. Despite several turnovers, ETBU sustained its lead through consistent scoring, including a late 3-pointer by
Jack Pease at 1:43, 36-28. Maryville attempted to close the gap with a few late baskets, but the Tigers held firm to finish the half with a 37-34 lead.
The second half started with a layup by Fleming at 17:48, briefly regaining the lead at 39–38. However, Maryville responded with a 16–4 run that included multiple turnovers from ETBU, pushing the home team's advantage to 54–43 by 11:53.
Despite efforts from the Tigers, including a 3-pointer by Pease at 1:49, Maryville maintained control through efficient scoring in the paint and fast breaks. The game concluded with Maryville outscoring ETBU 42–26, securing a 76–63 victory.
ETBU will head back home to face Centenary College on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
