MARSHALL, Texas – In their season opener, East Baptist University took the University of Texas Dallas down to the end of the matching falling, 4-2. ETBU earned a point in doubles and then fell in two tiebreakers in singles player. ETBU is now 0-1.
 
Earning the point doubles play, Jayde Childress and Kristyn Dunn won at no. 3, 7-5. Bailey Smith and Monique Ybarra followed with a 6-4 win at no. 1 to win the point. Fernanda Ruiz Burkart and Isabella Macquet dropped the no. 3 match, 6-4, which was the first match to get done.
 
Smith earned a point in singles play at no. 2 with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Megan Zeng. Childress fell in a tiebreaker at no. 4, 6-2, 1-6, 0-1 (8-10). Ruiz Burkart fell at no. 3 in a tiebreaker, 2-6, 6-2, 0-1 (8-10). Isabell Duarte lost at no. 5, 6-3, 6-0, while Ybarra fell at no. 1, 6-1, 6-1. Dunn's match was unfinished at no. 6.
 
ETBU will travel to Central Texas for a match against Schreiner University on Saturday and Trinity University on Sunday.
