#TIGERSWIN | SB | Shirley Earns 600th Career Win Sweeping Southwestern

MARSHALL, Texas – Sweeping Southwestern University, no. 1 East Texas Baptist University gave head coach Janae Shirley her 600th career win, 10-1, and 7-1. Shirley earned her 600th win, taking game two of the doubleheader as ETBU moved to 4-0. She is now 600-159 with a .791 winning percentage.
 
In the two games, Tristen Maddox had a double, triple, grand slam home run, four hits, and four RBI. Tauryn Cummings followed with four RBI on a home run and double. Maddie Melton recorded three RBI on two hits, including a triple. Aleyna St. Jean had two RBIs on two hits, and Julia St. John had one RBI.
 
ETBU used three pitchers as Avery Holland won game one, going five innings, allowing one earned run on four hits and one strikeout. McKenzie Jones won game two, working six innings with six strikeouts, one earned run and six hits. Hannah Benavides pitched the seventh inning, facing three batters and recording two strikeouts.
 
Game 1
ETBU 10, SU 1

Scoring seven runs in the fifth inning, ETBU run-ruled Southwestern, 10-1. Maddox and Cummings hit home runs in the fifth inning to end the game. A grand slam from Maddox gave ETBU an 8-1 lead, and then three batters later, Cummings had a two-run shot to end the game.
 
Maddox went 2-of-4 with four RBI, a grand slam, and a double. Cummings also went 2-of-4 with four RBI and a home run and double. St. Jean was 2-of-3 with two RBI. Holland went five innings, giving up just one earned run with one strikeout.
 
ETBU started with a one-run lead in the first when Cummings grounded out but brought in Maddox. SU tied the game in the top of the third but the lead didn't last long as ETBU struck with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Cummings doubled in Izabella Morales to retake the lead, and two batters later, St. Jean singled up the middle for a 3-1 lead as Cummings scored. St. Jean singled up the middle again in the fifth inning as Kate Jones came in for a 4-1 lead.
 
Maddox collected the first home run of the year with a grand slam in the fifth for a seven-run lead, 8-1. Three at-bats later, Cummings finished the game on a long ball to right center field, making it 10-1.
 
Game 2
ETBU 7, SU 1

In game two, ETBU's balanced offensive attack scored in three of the six innings. Melton led with two hits for three RBI, including a triple. Katelynn Jones and Maddox had two hits and Ava Rodriguez and St. John each had an RBI. McKenzie Jones pitched six innings to move to 2-0 with six strikeouts and one earned run. Benavides pitched the final inning, seeing just three batters and having two strikeouts.
 
Melton singled in two runs in the bottom of the first inning as Katelynn Jones and Maddox came in. SU scored one in the second to come within one run, but two runs in the fourth gave ETBU a three-run lead. Melton came home on rundown, and St. John grounded out to score St. Jean. A fielder's choice in the fifth allowed Maddox to come in for the fifth run of the game to start a three-run inning. Melton earned her third RBI on a sac fly to make it 6-1. Rodriguez brought in the final run on a double down the left field line as Emma Bell came in.
 
 ETBU will host Trinity University on Saturday in a doubleheader at 1:00/3:00 p.m.
