BATESVILLE, Ark. – Scoring insurance runs in the ninth inning, no. 10/19/22 East Texas Baptist University took their second straight three-game series with a 9-5 victory over Lyon College. ETBU is now 12-7 and has won nine consecutive games.
Luke Bumpas and
Dylan Burnaman both went 2-of-4 to lead the team.
Nathan Harmon had two RBI, and
Carson Livesay,
Ben Lea, Bumpus, and Burnaman added one RBI.
Carson Speegle earned the win in relief going 2.2 innings with two strikeouts.
Nolan Bushko recorded the save for the last two innings with one strikeout.
Tyler Bogusz started the game with 3.1 innings, giving up one earned run on four hits with one strikeout. After Speegle's outing,
Braden Karnes went one inning with one strikeout followed by
Brayden Hodge and Bushko.
Lyon took a 1-0 lead in the second but ETBU tied it at one in the fourth when
Luke Finn stole home. Livesay singled up the middle for an RBI to give ETBU the lead, 2-1, in the fifth. ETBU added four runs in the sixth for a 6-1 lead as one run scored on an error. Harmon doubled in two runs as Burnaman had the other RBI.
The Scots scored one in the sixth and three in the seventh to pull within one, 6-5, entering the eighth inning. Bushko came in the eighth inning with two on and no outs. He then retired the next two batters with a strikeout and pop-out. After he hit a batter, Lyon hit into a fielder's choice to get out of the jam.
ETBU then scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning. Lea and Bumpas had RBI hits, with one run coming in on an error for the four-run lead. Bushko retired the side in the bottom of the ninth with three flyouts.
ETBU is off until Thursday, March 27 when they open ASC play against Hardin-Simmons.
