WILLS POINT, Texas – In a great performance, the East Texas Baptist University women's tennis team garnered another win and their third sweep this season dominating the Steven Institute of Technology, 7-0. ETBU only dropped one set in doubles tbu earned the point and outperformed Stevens in singles for the shutout win. ETBU is now 3-3 on the season.
In doubles, Fernanda Ruiz-Burkart and Isabelle Macquet took the first win in match no.3, 6-1.
Bailey Smith and
Monique Ybarra then won the second match at no.1, 6-2. ETBU's only loss came in match no.2 with
Jayde Childress and
Kristyn Dunn losing, 6-4.
In singles, Ybarra gave ETBU its first singles win of the day, 6-1,6-1, at no. 2. Ruiz-Burkart took the in match no.3, 6-4, which ended early due to a Steven's retirement. The third win came at no.6 as
Kristyn Dunn won, 6-2, 6-1. Childress beat Lorena Piegas in match no.4, 6-2, 6-3. Smith, in a close match at no.1, dropped set 1 to Alix Dry, 2-6, but then won set 2, 7-5, and walked away the winner in the tiebreaker, 10-8.
Isabelle Duarte had the final win of the day in match no.5 over Emma Eguia, 6-4, 6-4.
ETBU will face off against Howard Payne University, Friday, March 21 at 3:00 PM in Marshall, TX.
