MARSHALL, Texas – Opening up American Southwest Conference play with a sweep, no. 1 East Texas Baptist University took both games from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, 6-0, and 4-2. ETBU is now 20-2 and 2-0 in the ASC.
Izabella Morales went 5-of-7 (.714) in the double header to lead ETBU with two RBI and two runs scored.
Tauryn Cummings had two home runs while
Ava Rodriguez and
Tristen Maddox each had a home run.
McKenzie Jones and Cummings had two RBI as
Emma Bell, Rodriguez,
Haylie Stum, and Maddox all had one RBI.
Avery Holland and Jones earned the win seven-inning wins. Holland moved to 6-0 shutting out UMHB with five strikeouts while Jones had four strikeouts.

Holland pitched a gem in the four-hit shutout recording five strikeouts and retiring the side in the first, fourth, sixth, and seventh innings. After giving up a hit to begin the fifth inning, she retired the next nine batters for the shutout.
Morales went 3-of-4 with two RBI and two stolen bases. Maddox, Cummings, and Rodriguez all had a home run. Bell was 2-of-4 with a RBI.
After a scoreless first inning, Cummings had a first-pitch home run to begin the second inning for the 1-0 lead. Maddox then led off the third inning with a home run to make it 2-0. Three batters later, Bell singled to left center field as Morales came in for the three-run advantage.
The final three runs were scored in the sixth inning as ETBU had their third leadoff home run of the game. Rodriguez went yard on the first pitch for the fourth run of the game. UMHB then hit the next three batters to load the bases as Morales singled up the middle brining in the final two runs, 6-0.

UMHB made the second game closer as ETBU came from behind for the 4-2 win. UMHB was up, 1-0, after the first inning but ETBU added two in the bottom of the second for the lead. The Cru tied it up in the third only to see ETBU take the lead, again, 3-2, in the bottom of the inning. An insurance run was scored in sixth for the 4-2 win.
Jones recorded four strikeouts as she moved to 5-0 on the year giving up two earned runs on five hits. Morales was 2-of-3 with a run scored. Stum and Cummings had a RBI while Jones provided two. Cummings hit her second home run of the series, too.
After UMHB took the 1-0 lead, Jones singled to centerfield in the second inning as Cummings and Bell came in to take the one-run lead. UMHB tied it at two in the top of the third but Stum singled in Morales as the go-ahead run in the bottom of the inning. Three innings later, Cummings homered to make it 4-2.
ETBU will host Texas Dallas on Saturday, March 29, in a double-header at 12:00 and 2:00 p.m.
