MARSHALL, Texas – Moving above .500 for the first time this season, no. 22 East Texas Baptist University swept Pacific University on Friday. ETBU won game one, 7-3, and then completed the sweep with a 6-2 victory. ETBU is now 8-7.
Game 1
ETBU 7, Pacific 3
ETBU had seven runs on seven hits with four extra-base hits, including a home run from
Carson Livesay. Livesay went 2-of-2 with two RBI and Nicholas Chavez had one hit for two RBI.
Matthew Irwin moved to 3-1 on the year, going 5.1 innings with three strikeouts.
Brayden Hodge had 0.2 innings of work, and
Landry Powell finished the seventh.
After Livesay scored in the first on a throwing error, Chavez singled in two runs to make it 3-0. Livesay homered in the second inning, making it 5-0.
Luke Finn gave ETBU a 6-0 lead in the fourth on a single to left center for a RBI.
Connor Massimini made it 7-1 in the fifth on a ground out that brought in
Hunter Rumachik.
Game 2
ETBU 6, Pacific 2
ETBU produced nine hits and two home runs in game two for their eighth win.
Ben Lea and
Nathan Harmon both had home runs. Finn and Harmon led the team with two hits each. Lea posted three RBI as Harmon added two RBI.
Matthew Krall went 4.1 innings with five strikeouts.
Carson Speegle followed with two innings of work and three strikeouts.
Braden Karnes,
Jagger Neely, and
Nolan Bushko all saw action in the last 2.2 innings.
Humachik singled in Livesay for the first run of the game in the third. Harmon then had a solo home run in the fourth for a 2-0 lead. A three-run home run from Lea in the fourth made it 5-0. Harmon homered again in the eighth for the 6-2 win.
ETBU will finish the series at 10:00 a.m. start on Saturday morning.
