WTN | ETBU Splits Matches Earning Win Over Dallas

IRVING, Texas – Splitting their matches in the Dallas area on Saturday, East Texas Baptist University shutout the University of Dallas, 7-0, for their second win of the year. In their first American Southwest Conference match, they fell to Hardin-Simmons University, 4-3. ETBU is now 2-3 and 0-1 in the ASC.

Falling in doubles play and losing two tiebreakers in singles, ETBU's chance of an upset fell shy by one point. ETBU was swept in doubles play as HSU earned the first point. ETBU earned points from Jayde Childress at no. 3 singles in a 1-6, 6-4, 6-2 win over Sydney Tomlin. Bailey Smith then won the no. 2 singles match, 6-2, 6-2, over Jonnah Smith. Kirstyn Dunn then gave ETBU a point at no. 6 singles in a 6-2, 6-4 win over Halle Smith. Fernanda Ruiz Burkart fell at no. 4 singles in a tie breaker, 4-6, 7-6 (11-9), 3-6. Monique Ybarra also lost in a tie breaker at no. 1, 2-6, 6-4, 4-6.
 
ETBU 7, UDallas 0
Bouncing back in the second match of the day, ETBU swept the University of Dallas, 7-0. They shutout the Crusaders in doubles play 6-0 at no. 1 and no. 2 from Smith and Yabbar (no. 1) and Dunn/Childress at no. 2. Isabella Macquet and Ruiz Burkhart didn't have an opponent at no. 3.
 
In singles play Ybarra (no. 1), Childress (no. 4), and Isabelle Duarte (no. 5) all earned 6-0, 6-0 wins. Bailey Smith won 6-1, 6-0, at no. 2, and Ruiz Burkhart had a 6-0, 6-1 win at no. 3. Dunn had no opponent at no. 6.
 
ETBU will play on March 18 against Stevens Institute in Wills Point.
