MARSHALL, Texas – One swing kept the 2025 season alive for no. 21 East Texas Baptist University as
Hunter Rumachik hit a walk-off, two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning for the 9-8 victory over Huntingdon University in the NCAA Division III Marshall, Texas Regional Tournament. Rumachik took the first pitch and sent it a no-doubter over the right field wall, keeping the season alive. ETBU is now 30-15 and faces no. 7 Trinity University for the Regional Championship. It is the third year in a row that ETBu will play for a regional championship.
Rumachik recorded two home runs and drove in five while scoring twice in the game with three hits.
Luke Bumpus also contributed with a home run and two RBIs, adding two hits to his tally.
Carson Livesay showcased his speed on the bases, scoring three runs and stealing three bases, with one hit. Lea stood out with a team-high three hits, including two doubles.
Connor Massimini then added two hits and Joaquin had one RBI.
Tyler Bogusz pitched six innings, allowing five hits and four runs while striking out four batters and walking three in the no-decision.
Trip Barron, in relief, recorded 0 2/3 innings, surrendering two hits, three runs, and issuing two walks.
Nolan Bushko pitched 2 1/3 innings, allowing no hits and only one earned run, striking out three and walking two for the win in relief.
ETBU opened the game with a strong start in the first inning. Livesay walked and stole second, setting the stage for Bumpus, who homered to bring in two runs. ETBU led 2–0 at the end of the first.
In the fourth inning, Huntingdon responded with a four-run rally. A triple followed by a fielder's choice and RBI single contributed to a tie game at two. Huntingdon took a 4–2 lead after the fourth inning on a two-run double.
ETBU regained momentum in the sixth inning. After Livesay walked and stole second, Costa doubled down the left field line, bringing Livesay home. Rumachik's fielder's choice scored another run, tying the game at 4–4 through six innings.
The seventh inning saw Huntingdon briefly surge ahead with three runs, aided by a couple of hits and capitalizing on a wild pitch, making it 7-4. However, ETBU reduced the deficit with a run scored by Livesay on Bumpus's RBI single, keeping them close at 7–5 after seven innings.
In the eighth inning, the Tigers took the lead once more. Lea doubled, followed by Rumachik's two-run homer, pushing the Tigers to a 7-7 tie.
The final inning solidified ETBU's victory. Although it was a battle after Huntingdon took a 8-7 lead on a fielder's choice. With two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, Rumachik homered again, taking a swing on the first pitch, driving in two runs and securing a 9–8 win for ETBU.
ETBU has now advanced to its third straight Regional Championship game and will face Trinity University again at 1:00 p.m.
