CLAREMONT, Calif. – A historic run through the 2025 post-season continues for East Texas Baptist University as they shut out Edgewood College, 4-0, in the first round of the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis National Tournament. ETBU is now 2-1 in the NCAA Tournament making their first appearance since 2017 where they also won their first-round game. They improve to 9-6 on the year.
It was a clean sweep in doubles as ETBU won both the no. 2 and no. 3 flights.
Isabella Macquet and
Kristyn Dunn teamed up for a 6-0 win over Sarah Emory Christina Ekkela at no. 3.
Jayde Childress and
Fernanda Ruiz Burkart took the no. 2 match, 6-1, against Hattie Plenty and Madelyn Connaughty.
Monique Ybarra and
Bailey Smith were tied at 3-3 in the no. 1 match when ETBU won the point.
Isabella Macquet gave ETBU a 2-0 lead at no. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-1, over Emory. Ybarra made it 3-0 as she won the no. 1 match, 6-1, 6-1, over Taylor. Smith ended the match for the 4-0 win as she won, 6-2, 6-0, at no. 2 against Light.
ETBU will face #3 Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. (CST) in the second round of the NCAA Division III National Tournament.
