MS | Tigers Show Fight in Narrow 1-0 Loss to Mary Hardin Baylor.

MARSHALL, Texas — A hard fought 90 minutes came down to a single goal, as East Texas Baptist lost to Mary Hardin-Baylor 1-0 on Saturday at Maverick field in conference play. ETBU kept the match scoreless through the first half, including a stretch from 32:19 to 43:06 in which it withstood 12 UMHB attacking actions. The Tigers put eight of their 11 shots on goal and made seven saves, while the Crusaders also had eight shots on goal among 25 total attempts. ETBU was 4-4-2 overall and 0-1-2 in league play, with Mary Hardin-Baylor at 7-2-0 and 3-0-0.

Joshua Weston recorded seven saves over 90 minutes in goal. Jacob Whittington led ETBU with three shots and put two on goal. James Mastrangelo added two shots off the bench, both on goal.

The Tigers kept UMHB off the board through extended pressure in the first half, with Weston making three saves as the teams went to halftime scoreless. Early, Weston stopped shots by Carter Simpson and Zane Webb during a UMHB push that also included two corner kicks, and ETBU answered with a saved Dylan Garcia attempt in the ninth minute and a Whittington shot wide in the 14th. The half turned more physical after the 26th minute, with the Tigers whistled for four fouls in an 11-minute span and Jacob Wenzel receiving a yellow card at 37:13. The Crusaders generated another wave of chances from 32:19 to 43:06, but ETBU held firm, and Whittington put another shot on frame before Preston McLean's late effort was saved by the team in the final minute.

ETBU pressed for an equalizer after UMHB scored at 69:23, putting three shots on goal from the 78th through 84th minutes while trailing 1-0. Earlier, Weston kept the Tigers level with saves on Webb in the 49th minute and Blake Dildy in the 69th, while Braxton Ladwig had two second-half attempts, including a saved shot after an ETBU corner at 66:33. After the goal, Weston added saves on Martin Valdes in the 71st and 83rd minutes to keep the margin at one. Mastrangelo came off the bench to force saves at 78:25 and 82:35, and Andrew Bradford followed with another shot on goal at 83:52, but ETBU could not convert before the match ended at 1-0.
