MARSHALL, Texas – A new season begins for the East Texas Baptist University men's basketball program on Saturday as they host Southwestern University. Chris Lovell enters his seventh season as head coach and led ETBU to an American Southwest Conference Tournament Championship in 2023.

ETBU enters the season picked sixth in the ASC preseason poll. Three players are on the ASC Watch List: returner Shad Levy and newcomers Chris Carpenter and Greg Dumas. Levy averaged 9.8 points and 3.4 rebounds per game last season and started all 26 games. Carpenter transferred from UT Tyler and was an All-State player in Louisiana. Dumas transfers to ETBU from Paris JC, where he averaged 4.1 points and shot .500 from the floor.

Playing at home 10 times this season, ETBU will be in Ornelas Gym three times in the first two weeks of the season on Nov. 7, 11, and 21. They will travel to Georgia to face LaGrange College and Huntingdon College, then take an after-Christmas trip to Iowa to face Simpson College, Grinnell College, and Central College.

The new season opens on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. against Southwestern University in Ornelas Gym.
