MARSHALL, Texas – Sweeping a strong NAIA program, East Texas Baptist University earned their first win of the year shutting out Texas Wesleyan University, 7-0. ETBU is now 1-1.
The match started with three wins in doubles to earn the point.
Jaco Snyman and
Jacob Daniell won the no. 3 match, 6-1, and
Sam Black and
Max Karseno earned the point with a 6-3 win at no. 1.
Mark Armbruster and
Erick Van Zyl finished off the sweep with a tiebreaking, 7-6 (7-4) win at no. 2.
Van Zyl was the first singles win at no. 4 with a tiebreaking win, 6-3, 2-6, 10-3, for the second point of the match. Armbruster then won the no. 3 match, 6-3, 6-1, followed by Black taking the no. 1 match, 6-3, 6-4. Snyman made it 5-0 with a tiebreaking 6-4, 0-6, 10-8, win at no. 2. Daniell swept the no. 6 match, 6-0, 6-0, and Karseno sealed the 7-0 win with a 6-1, 6-1, win at no. 5.
ETBU will face Covenant College (Ga.) and Sewanee (Tenn.) this weekend in Tennessee.
