MARSHALL, Texas — A Tuesday night slugfest turned into a victory for East Texas Baptist University with a 16-10 over LeTourneau University. The Tigers' offense was powered by five home runs and 14 hits as they moved to 5-4 on the year. LeTourneau rallied with seven runs in the fifth inning, but ETBU's five-run outburst in the same inning, followed by four more in the sixth, ensured the win.
Raef Wright hit two home runs and drove in four runs while scoring three times.
Kahne Nolen added three runs, two hits, and a home run while also drawing a walk.
Connor Massimini scored three runs and recorded a home run with two hits and an RBI.
Jobee Boone collected three hits, including a home run and a double, while driving in four runs and scoring once.
Justin Flannery added two hits with three RBI, including a double.
Nathan Harmon also gave a RBI with one hit.
Carter May started the game, pitching three innings and allowing three earned runs on 4 hits with one strikeout.
Matthew Irwin contributed an inning of relief, giving up 1 hit and issuing 1 walk. Anthony had two earned runs on one hit in one-third of an inning.
Cody Myers pitched two-thirds of an inning, allowing three runs on two hits.
Tyler Bogusz delivered a strong performance, pitching four scoreless innings in relief to finish the game, striking out three, and not allowing a hit, securing the win for ETBU.
ETBU and LeTourneau each scored two runs in the first inning. Massimini's solo homer to left center, along with Harmon's RBI groundout, highlighted ETBU's scoring to tie the game at two.
In the third inning, ETBU took control. Wright homered to start the scoring, and Flannery's double brought in two more runs. Boone's double added two more, giving ETBU a 7-3 lead.
LeTourneau responded with a seven-run surge in the fifth, aided by an RBI single and a series of errors. However, ETBU countered effectively. Nolen's RBI double and Wright's three-run homer restored control, putting the home team ahead 12-10 by the inning's end.
ETBU extended its lead in the sixth inning. Nolen's two-run homer and Boone's two-run shot contributed to a four-run inning, increasing the lead to 16-10.
Neither team scored in the final three innings, and ETBU secured a 16-10 victory over LeTourneau.
ETBU will face Mount St. Joseph (OH) at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 27 in Montgomery, Ala.
