GEORGETOWN, Texas – Facing a strong regional opponent to open up the 2026 spring season, East Texas Baptist University fell to Southwestern University (TX), 6-1. ETBU won the doubles point but fell in all five singles matches and are now 0-1 on the year.
Mark Armbruster and
Erick Van Zyl won the first match in doubles, 6-3, at no. 2 over Ashton Ellis and Christo Langford.
Sam Black and
Max Karseno gave ETBU the 1-0 lead taking the no. 1 match, 6-3, over Bernie Clemente and Parth Patel.
Jacob Daniell and
Jaco Snyman swept the doubles, overall, with a tiebreaking, 7-6 (7-5), win over Landon Sosebee and Sebastian Herrera.
Three of the six matches went to a third set as ETBU fell in all three. Snymon fell to Ellis in the no. 2 match, 6-4, 3-6, 2-6, after winning the first set. Van Zyl had a three-set loss at no. 4 falling in set one, 1-6, taking set two, 6-1, but fell in set three, 0-6. Karseno battled hard at the no. 5 match with three tiebreaking sets falling in set one, 6-7 (4-7), winning set two, 7-6 (8-2), and dropping set three, 6-7 (5-10).
ETBU will be home on Tuesday as they host Texas Wesleyan at 3:00 p.m.
