#TIGERSWIN | BB | ETBU Produces 22 Runs on Saturday in Series Sweep of Lyon College

MARSHALL, Texas -  Taking the three game series with the double header sweep on Saturday, East Texas Baptist University moved to 12-6 on the year as they won both games over Lyon College, 11-8, and 11-5. ETBU produced 22 runs on 23 hits with five doubles and six home runs.
 
Isaac Thornton won game one providing seven strikeouts in five innings of work. Aiden Leonard earned the win in game two in 3.1 innings of relief with two strikeouts, one hit, and no runs.
 
Kaden Wharton, Carson Livesay, and Kahne Nolen all had four hits. Nolen recorded two home runs for two RBI as Joaquin Costa also provided two home runs and a double for five RBI. Justin Flannery had the other home run with four RBI. Livesay and Connor Massimini had two RBI as Brody Tewers, Jobee Boone, Colby Wilson, and Wharton had one RBI.

ETBU 11, Lyon College 8

ETBU opened up the offensive power in game one scoring six runs in the second inning to blow up the game as they held onto an 11-8 win over Lyon College, ETBU was  powered by a strong offensive showing that included three home runs from Joaquin Costa, Kahne Nolen, and Connor Massimini that helped the Tigers to the win.
 
Costa recorded three RBIs and two hits, including a home run. Nolen led with three hits and three runs, adding a home run and a stolen base. Massimini added a home run, scoring once and collecting one RBI. Carson Livesay delivered three hits and scored two runs, while also stealing two bases. Earning a RBI were Brody Tewers, Jobee Boone, Justin Flannery, and Kaden Wharton.
 
Isaac Thornton delivered a solid performance for ETBU, pitching 5 innings and striking out 7 batters allowing four earned runs with 5 hits for the win. Garrett Walker contributed two innings of relief with three strikeouts, with four earned runs on three hits to finish the game.
 
The game remained scoreless until the second inning, when Lyon wnt ahead with a solo home run. The Tigers responded decisively in the bottom half, starting with Massimini's solo homer followed by Nolen's long ball for a 2-1 lead. Costa's three-run homer capped a six-run inning, putting ETBU ahead 6-1 after two innings.
 
In the third inning, a sacrifice fly by Flannery brought home Nolen, extending the lead to 7-1. The fourth inning saw the Tigers capitalize further with a series of hits, highlighted by a Tewers RBI single and a wild pitch that scored him later. Livesay's RBI single and Boone's RBI double pushed the lead to 11-1 after four innings.
 
Lyon narrowed the gap in the fifth inning with a three-run homer, closing the score to 11-4. The sixth inning was scoreless for both teams, with Walker taking over pitching duties for ETBU.
 
In the seventh inning, Lyon made a final push as Landon Swallow's with a bases-clearing triple and a RBI groundout that the contest to 11-8. ETBU held on, securing the win with no further scoring.

ETBU 11, Lyon College 5

 
Scoring 11 runs over four innings, East Texas Baptist University swept the series over Lyon College, 11-5. ETBU was down 1-0, after the top of the third inning and followed with 11 runs over the next four innings for the win. ETBU posted 11 hits as five were for extra bases including three home runs. Costa, Nolen, and Flannery all had home runs.
 
Wharton scored three runs, hit a double, and led the team with three hits. Costa had a home run and two RBIs. Nolen also added power, hitting a home run and collecting an RBI. Flannery was by driving in three runs with a home run and a double. Adding a RBI were Livesay and Colby Wilson.
 
Carter May pitched 3 2/3 innings, allowing one earned run on five hits while striking out one and walking one for the no decision. Leonard followed with a strong relief appearance, pitching 3 1/3 innings without giving up any runs and allowing just one hit for the win. Conner Smeltzer gave up four earned runs on four hits, while Tyler Bogusz closed the game with a scoreless inning, not allowing a hit.
 
Lyon struck first with a solo homer to open the scoring in the third inning, but Costa answered with a two-run homer for ETBU, driving in Wilson for a 2-1 lead.
 
In the fourth, Nolen extended the lead with a solo homer, making it 3-1. The Tigers added three more runs in the fifth inning. Flannery doubled down the left field line, scoring Wilson. A balk allowed Flannery to score, and a fielder's choice by Massimini brought home Wharton, pushing the lead to 6-1.
 
The sixth inning saw further scoring from ETBU. Flannery hit a two-run homer, and a wild pitch combined with a fielding error allowed additional unearned runs, extending the lead to 10-1.
 
Lyon responded in the eighth inning, scoring four runs, highlighted by a two-RBI double. The Tigers added one more in their half of the eighth when Wharton scored on a groundout, maintaining an 11-5 lead.
 
The game concluded with a quiet ninth inning, cementing the final score at 11-5.
 
ETBU will host the University of St. Thomas Houston on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. in a regional match up.
