LONGVIEW, Texas — Exploding for eight runs in the second inning to take command of the game, no. 24 East Texas Baptist University (16-7) secured a commanding 14–3 victory over LeTourneau University (12-12) on Tuesday night at Conrad-Vernon Field. ETBU had 10 hits and two home runs from
Connor Massimini.
Massimini led the charge with a remarkable performance, recording three runs, four hits, and driving in seven RBIs, including two home runs and two doubles.
Carter Nannini contributed two runs and two hits while adding an RBI.
Justin Flannery added a RBI as
Kaden Wharton had two RBI.
Carson Livesay added a crucial two-run double, finishing with one hit.
Brayden Hodge pitched effectively in relief, throwing 3 innings and allowing no runs with two hits, securing the win.
Nolan Bushko pitched 1 1/3 innings, allowing two hits and one earned run while striking out two batters.
Brayden Hodge pitched three scoreless innings, conceding only two hits and one walk while striking out one, and he also picked off a runner to earn the win.
Anthony Tellez surrendering two hits and two runs, one of which was earned.
Declan Conry pitched 2/3 inning without allowing a hit or a run, striking out two.
Garrett Walker closed out with one inning of work, giving up one hit and no runs.
The momentum began in the second inning when the Tigers capitalized on a throwing error, followed by
Jobee Boone's walk and
Colby Wilson being hit by a pitch to load the bases. Flannery walked to bring in
Raef Wright for the first unearned run. Livesay then doubled down the left field line, driving in two more runs. Nannini singled, and Massimini delivered with a grand slam to left field, bringing the inning's tally to eight runs. LeTourneau scored once, making it 8–1 through two innings.
In the fifth inning, Massimini doubled, and a series of strategic steals allowed him to score, followed by Boone and Wilson scoring on Wharton's two-RBI single. LeTourneau added a run to make it 11–2 after five innings.
Massimini continued his standout performance in the sixth with a two-run homer to left-center, pulling further ahead, 13-2. LeTourneau managed another run, making it 13–3 through six innings.
In the seventh,
Juan Ortigoza doubled and scored on Massimini's RBI double to extend the lead to 11 runs, 14-3. LeTourneau was unable to score in the bottom of the inning as the game ended in the seventh on a run-rule.
The Tigers' next game will take place at home against Maryville College (TN) on Friday, March 27 at 6 p.m. in Marshall, Texas.
