#TIGERSWIN | BB | ETBU Erupts for 27 Runs Sweeping Doubleheader Over Pacific

FOREST GROVE, Ore. – Responding with 27 runs on day two of the series, East Texas Baptist University surged back to take the series sweeping Pacific University in the Saturday double header. ETBU won game one, 17-4, and then took a 10-inning win in game two, 10-7, moving to 9-6 on the year.
 
Isaac Thornton and Aiden Leonard earned the wins. Thornton took game one going five innings with six strikeouts and one earned run. Leonard pitched four innings of relief for the win in game two with six strikeouts, no hits, no earned runs, and two walks.
 
On the day, Connor Massimini led the team with a .667 average adding four hits. Carter Nannini had five RBI, three doubles with four hits. Carson Livesay finished with four hits and one RBI and Justin Flannery added four RBI on three doubles scoring four times. Kaden Wharton also had five RBI on three hits with two doubles.
 
Game 1
ETBU 17, Pacific 4

ETBU secured a commanding 17-4 victory over Pacific University in the first game on Saturday in Oregon. The Tigers scored 10 runs in the fifth inning, capitalizing on five doubles and 14 walks. Pacific managed a three-run sixth inning but was unable to close the gap.
 
Nannini led the offense with three hits, including two doubles, and drove in three runs. Joaquin Costa contributed with two hits, scoring twice and adding an RBI. Flannery also made an impact by scoring twice, collecting two RBI, and hitting a double. Kahne Nolen added two hits and one RBI. Adding two RBI is Gavin Walker and Brody Tewers while Massimini, Livesay, and Wharton all had one RBI.
 
Thornton pitched five innings, allowing six hits and one earned run while striking out six batters for the win. Harris Woodside contributed one inning of relief, conceding four hits, and three runs, with a strikeout. Anthony Tellez closed the game with one inning, striking out two batters without allowing any hits or runs.
 
The Tigers began the game strong, with Costa doubling to right field and scoring on a groundout by Tewers to take an early lead, 1-0. In the second inning, Nolen doubled and scored on an RBI single by Wharton. Livesay also scored on a single by Costa, extending the lead to three runs..
 
The fourth inning saw Wharton walk, steal second, and advance to third on an error, before scoring on a single by Nannini. Pacific responded with a run, but the Tigers maintained a 4-1 edge after four innings.
 
ETBU's offense erupted in the fifth inning, scoring ten runs. The inning was highlighted by a two-RBI double from Nannini and a two-RBI double by Flannery. Multiple walks and wild pitches contributed to the scoring making it, 14-1.
 
Pacific added three runs in the sixth, but the Tigers responded in the seventh. Walker's two-RBI single and a run-scoring single by Tewers extended the lead further, 17-4, at the end of seven innings. Nobody scored the rest of the way as ETBU won the first game of the double header.

Game 2
ETBU 10, Pacific 7 (10 inn)

 
In an extra-inning contest, East Texas Baptist scored three runs in the top of the 10th inning to take the series over Pacific, 10-7. The Tigers' offensive surge was highlighted by a three-run eighth inning, which helped overcome a mid-game rally by Pacific. Massimini contributed three hits, while the pitching staff combined for 11 strikeouts to limit the scoring opportunities.
 
Nannini recorded a double and drove in two runs as Massimini collected three hits. Livesay scored three runs and added three hits, as Justin Flannery contributed with two doubles and two RBIs. Nolen and Boone added a RBI while Wharton had to hits for two RBI.
 
Carter May took the mound, pitching 3 1/3 innings with two earned runs allowed on two hits and four walks while striking out three batters. Jake Schumacher entered in relief, pitching 2 2/3 innings while allowing five earned runs on five hits and two walks, recording two strikeouts. Aiden Leonard closed the game with an impressive four innings of scoreless relief, striking out six and allowing no hits, securing the win.
 
Pacific took an early lead in the first inning, 1-0, but ETBU responded in the second inning. Boone walked and later scored on a double to right field by Flannery, tying the game at 1-1. However, Pacific regained the lead 2-1 at the end of the second.
 
In the fourth inning, Livesay singled, advanced on a groundout, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Wharton, tying the game 2-2. The fifth inning saw a shift in momentum as Tewers scored on a double by Nolen, who also scored thanks to Boone's single. ETBU led 4-2 before Pacific answered with three runs, reclaiming a 5-4 lead.
 
The game remained tight as both teams failed to score in the sixth inning. Pacific extended its lead to 7-4 in the seventh inning. ETBU mounted a comeback in the eighth inning as Boone and Livesay reached base, setting up Flannery's RBI double, followed by Wharton's two-RBI single, tying the game at 7-7.
 
The ninth inning was scoreless, pushing the game to extra innings. In the tenth, ETBU surged ahead asLivesay walked and advanced on a wild pitch, leading to a bases-loaded situation. Nannini's double cleared the bases, scoring three and securing a 10-7 victory for the Tigers.
 
ETBU will travel to face Austin College at 6 p.m. on Tuesday in Sherman, Texas.
