MARSHALL, Texas – Breaking the program record for wins in a season, East Texas Baptist University earned their fifth win, sneaking by Buffalo State University, 209.305 to 207.610 in the NCATA Division III National Tournament. ETBU ends the year at 5-5 and finishes fourth at the NCATA Division III National Tournament.
ETBU produced four 9.0+ scores with four 8.0+ scores in the meet, winning four of the six events. Their highest score was 9.55 in the Compulsory Event at the Pyramid Heat. They also posted a 9.15 in the Toss Heat of the Compulsory. A 9.18 came in the Pyramid Event in the Inversion and a 9.03 in the Open of the Pyramid Event.
The meet started off with a 0.15-point differential win in Compulsory, 26.85 to 26.70, with two of the 9.0 scores. That was followed by another event win in the Acro, posting 22.03 points to BSU's 19.83. The 5-Element was the best heat with an 8.50. ETBU held onto the lead at the half, 75.80 to 72.93, by taking the Pyramid Event, 26.93 to 26.40. Two 9.0 scores came in the Inversion and Open, with an 8.73 in the Synchronized.
ETBU fell in the Toss Event to BSU, 24.45 to 22.13, with an 8.05 in the 450 Salto. They bounced back with 42.25 points in Tumbling to BSU's 38.625, taking a slim lead. The Aerial Pass produced the highest score, 8.075.
Coming down to the Team Event, BSU made up ground, winning the event with 71.61 points to ETBU's 69.13 points, but the Tigers held on for the win by 1.695 points.
