MARSHALL, Texas – In their final home match of the year on Senior Day, East Texas Baptist University went head-to-head with the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor for the top spot in the American Southwest Conference. ETBU came up short of the win, 5-2, as two matches went to a third-set tiebreaker. ETBU is now 10-7 and 1-1 in the ASC.
ETBU won one doubles match but lost the point, as
Max Karseno and
Sam Black won the no. 1 match, 6-4. ETBU then fell in no. 2, 6-1, and no. 3, 6-3.
Taking two matches in singles,
Baptiste Berthier won the no. 5 competition, 6-3, 6-3, and Karseno took the no. 6 match, 7-6 (9-6), 6-2.
Mark Armbruster fell in a tiebreaker at no. 3, 4-6, 6-3, 4-6, and
Erick Van Zyl fell at no. 4, 2-6, 6-4, 1-6. Black had a close match at no. 1, 5-7, 2-6, and
Jaco Snyman lost at no. 2, 2-6, 4-6.
ETBU will take on Hardin-Simmons University at a neutral court in Coppell, Texas, on Saturday, April 18, at 1:00 p.m. in the final regular season match.
