LYNCHBURG, Va. — In the second game of the NCAA Division III Lynchburg Super Regional, No. 11 East Texas Baptist University (37-11) came up shy of the win as No. 2 the University of Lynchburg (40-7-1) held onto the 3-1 victory. Lynchburg's Logan Tappman held ETBU to four hits and no earned runs ending the Tiger's historic 21-game win streak. It is ETBU's first loss since March 28 as they went undefeated in April for the program's longest winning streak. With the loss, the "if" game will take place at 12:45 pm CST as the winner will move onto the NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament.
Jobee Boone recorded two hits and was hit by a pitch to lead the team.
Connor Massimini contributed a double as
Juan Ortigoza added a hit and two stolen bases.
Carter Nannini recorded the lone RBI on a groundout.
Cody Myers started the game, pitching four innings and allowing three earned runs on five hits while issuing three walks receiving the loss.
Aiden Leonard came in as relief, pitching effectively through five innings, giving up three hits and striking out three.
The Tigers took an early lead in the first inning when
Carson Livesay reached on a throwing error and advanced to second. Massimini's groundout moved Livesay to third, and Nannini grounded out to shortstop, allowing Livesay to score unearned making it 1-0.
In the third inning, Lynchburg responded. Benton Jones walked, and Jack Pokorak doubled to center field, advancing Jones to third. Quinn Madden then singled to left center, driving in both Jones and Pokorak to put Lynchburg ahead, 2-1.
Lynchburg added another run in the fifth inning on a throwing error to third base as the Lynchburg runner was stealing. .
ETBU had runners in scoring position in the third and sixth innings but Lynchburg's Tappman pitched out the jam each time.
The "if" game is at 12:45 PM CST for the third game in the series as the winner will advance onto the Championship Tournament in Eastlake, Ohio.
