MARSHALL, Texas – A slow first half of women's soccer turned into an exciting second half for East Texas Baptist University as they earned a shutout victory over the University of Dallas, 3-0. ETBU took 17 shots in the second half, scoring two goals as they earned the season-opening win.
Grace Dale,
Grace Shurley, and
Hannah Warren all scored goals, as
Ava Trevino led the team with five shots, three on goal. Warren also took four shots with three on goal, with
Paige Barclay having three on goal. Overall, ETBU took 23 shots with 19 on goal.
Taylor Lauster, in her first start, earned the win with two saves and the shutout. She faced seven shots with only two on goal.
It was a slow first half with only six shots taken on goal. The first five were all saved by UD's goalie in the seventh, 10
th, 23
rd, 27
th, and 29
th minutes. Dale broke the scoreless game open in the 37
th minute, being at the right place at the right time. The UD goalie muffed the save as Dale was right there in the box to tap in the first goal of the game for a 1-0 lead a the half.
ETBU found their offensive stride in the second half, taking 17 shots with 12 saves. Just over a minute into the half, Shurley made it 2-0 as she nailed a 30-yarder to the left side of the net. ETBU took 14 more shots before Warren connected off a muffed assist in the box to tap in the third goal of the game in the 85
th minute.
ETBU will travel to Georgetown, Texas, on Sunday, September 6, to face Southwestern University at 2:00 p.m.
