MARSHALL, Texas – Taking on two opponents on Saturday in Ornelas Gym, No. 12 East Texas Baptist University rallied in both matches for two victories moving to 10-3. ETBU defeated Schreiner, 3-2, in the morning and Austin College, 3-1, in the afternoon.

ETBU went five sets with Schreiner University winning the first two and then taking the fifth set, 15-6 (25-17, 25-16, 21-25, 24-26, 15-6). ETBU hit .500 with eight kills and no attack errors in the fifth set after Schreiner forced a deciding set.
Lara Hornsby led ETBU with 17 kills and added 15 digs for 18.0 points recording a double-double.
Anita Hancock recorded 13 kills on a .545 hitting percentage and added five total blocks for 17.5 points.
Katherine Server finished with 12 kills, hit .348 and matched Hancock with five total blocks.
Sydney Temple tallied 23 assists and served four aces.
ETBU paired a late fifth-set surge with stronger full-match production, winning seven of eight rallies to move from 8-5 to a 15-6 finish in the final set. The Tigers finished with 64 kills and a .244 hitting percentage compared with 51 kills and a .164 mark for Schreiner, while also holding advantages in digs, blocks and service aces.
The Tigers won the opening set 25-17, finishing with a 14-11 edge in kills and a 3-0 advantage in service aces. Hornsby had five kills and Hancock added four, while Temple served two aces, including the set-ending ace, after ETBU moved from down 7-5 to ahead 10-8.
ETBU took the second set 25-16 after winning seven of the first eight rallies to build a 7-1 advantage. Hancock finished the set with four kills and two block points, while Hornsby and
McKinzie Riley each added three kills.
The Tigers erased a 7-3 deficit in the third set with a 6-0 run, including five straight points on Hancock's serve, to move ahead 9-7. ETBU finished with 13 kills to Schreiner's 11, led by three each from Hornsby,
Emily Sitton and Server, but Schreiner scored the final three points to take the set 25-21.
ETBU built a fourth-set advantage with a 6-0 run from a 7-7 tie to a 13-7 lead, part of a stretch in which it won seven of eight rallies to go ahead 14-8. Server had five kills and Hornsby added four in the set for ETBU, while Schreiner countered with 13 kills to take the set 26-24.
The Tigers won the fifth set 15-6, finishing on a 7-of-8 stretch after holding an 8-5 lead. ETBU had an 8-4 edge in kills in the set, with Hornsby and Riley each recording two, and
Peyton LeJeune's serve helped produce the opening 5-0 run.

Competing in their second match of the day, ETBU won three straight sets after dropping the first over Austin College 3-1. ETBU answered a 25-27 opening-set loss by winning the next three sets, 25-17, 25-18, and 25-16, and finished with a 55-42 advantage in kills.
Hornsby led the Tigers with 19 kills and 22.0 points, adding 11 digs and four block assists.
Sadie Kasowski collected 24 digs and added three assists and a service ace. Hancock posted a team-high six total blocks and contributed five kills. Riley recorded 12 kills with no errors on 24 attacks, hitting .500 and adding a service ace.
ETBU pushed the opening set to 24-24 after Austin reached 24-21, getting two Hornsby kills around a block by Hornsby and Hancock. Earlier,
Claire Stewart served the Tigers through four straight points from 17-11 to 17-15, including a service ace. Austin answered in the final points to take the set, 27-25.
ETBU created separation in the second set by winning seven of eight rallies to turn a 6-4 edge into a 13-5 lead. Hornsby helped close it out with kills for the 23rd and 24th points before an Austin attack error finished the Tigers' 25-17 set win.
The Tigers built separation midway through the third set behind Hornsby's serve, taking four straight points from 9-6 to 13-6, including a service ace and a Hancock-
Lindsey Gooch block. After Austin closed to 15-13, ETBU answered with kills from
Kacie Trimble,
Katherine Server, and Riley to move back in front 20-14. Hornsby and Riley added late kills, and the Tigers finished the set at 25-18 on an Austin setting error.
ETBU created the set's key separation by winning seven of eight rallies from a 6-4 lead to a 13-5 advantage. Riley served four straight points in that stretch and had kills assisted by Stewart and Kasowski, while
Peyton LeJeune added an ace before the Tigers reached 13. ETBU finished the fourth set 25-16, with the last point coming on a Hornsby kill from
Sydney Temple.
ETBU takes a trip west to face the University of Dallas on Tuesday, Sept. 29, at 6 p.m. at Ed Maher Athletic Center in Irving, Texas.

First Set
- After an early 2-2 tie, Austin created separation and moved ahead 12-4 behind two aces and several kills
- ETBU worked back into the set, then Stewart served four straight points, including an ace, as the gap closed to 17-15.

- ETBU moved ahead from a 4-4 tie, using an Austin service error, a Trimble-Hancock block, and a Hancock kill to build a 7-4 lead.
- Hornsby's serving stretch pushed the lead from 9-6 to 13-6, including an ace and a closing block from Hancock and Gooch.
- Austin answered by cutting the margin to 14-11 and later 15-13, but the Tigers responded with kills from Trimble, Server, and Trimble again to move back ahead 18-13.
- ETBU stayed in front down the stretch, getting late kills from Hornsby and Riley before closing the set 25-18.
Fourth Set
- After Austin moved ahead 3-2 and the teams traded points to 4-4, ETBU put together a five-point stretch, with Gooch and Riley recording kills as the lead grew to 9-4.
- Austin stopped that run with a kill, but the Tigers answered with four of the next five points, including a Server kill, a LeJeune ace, and a block from Hornsby and Trimble, to move ahead 13-5.
- Austin scored three straight points to cut the margin to 15-9, but ETBU continued to side out and later went up 22-13 on a Reegan Hammer ace.
- After Austin got within 23-16, Trimble and Hornsby finished the final two points with kills for a 25-16 set win.
