Box Score 2 MARSHALL, Texas – Gaining their seventh win of the year and taking the series overall, the East Texas Baptist University baseball team split their double header in the with Schreiner University, winning game one, 3-0, but falling short, 10-8, in game two. ETBU is now 7-2 overall and saw their six-game winning streak come to an end in game three.
In the first game, Zach Ervin led the team with two hits. Connor Combs would get two RBIs on a home run while Zach Compton recorded a RBI. Kyle Loson received the start and the win by pitching a complete game seven-inning one hit shutout striking out five batters. For Schreiner, Christopher Martinez would take the loss as he went two innings allowing three runs on five hits.
In the second game, Dynas Doud had three hits including a home run. Tyler Bates finished with two hits and also had a home run for three RBI. Compton would also add two RBI on a home run. Zach Pollard took the loss going two and two-thirds innings allowing eight runs on six hits while striking out two batters. Cody Pierce (3.1 IP, four hits, one run, two k's), Logan Sprinkle (0.1 IP), and Jimmy Russo (2.2 IP, three hits, one run, four strikeouts) would also make appearances in the game.
Game 1 – ETBU 3, Schreiner 0
After a 1-2-3 inning by Schreiner, ETBU got on board first when following a Bates double and Doud single, Compton would hit a sacrifice fly to right field scoring Bates from third. One inning later, Conner Combs would drill a two-run home run to make it 3-0. After the second inning, Schreiner made a pitching chance and Stanford would hold ETBU for the rest of the game.
Schreiner would get their first hit of the day when Marco Carreon would hit a single in the fourth inning. But they would not get any more threats as Loson retired the final 11 batters for Schreiner to end the game.
Loson earned the win and now is 2-1 on the year. Ervin led the team with two hits as four other players had one hit each.
Game 2 – Schreiner 10, ETBU 8
Schreiner jumped on ETBU with a run in the top of the first and then would put up eight runs in the top of the third including a two-run home run and a grand slam for a 9-0 lead. ETBU would answer with a two-run home run by Compton in the bottom half of the third. In the fourth, Doud would hit a solo shot to make it a 9-3 ballgame. One inning later, Mason Aldredge would drive in Combs with a double and it was 9-4.
The seventh inning saw Bates drive in another run with a double, which would be followed by a wild pitch that scored a run making it 9-6 in Schreiner's favor. In the top of the eighth, Schreiner added an insurance run to make it 10-6. Bates would drive a two-run home run to left field in the bottom of the ninth to make it a 10-8 deficit. But that would be all ETBU could muster as Schreiner hung on for the win.
Zach Pollard received the loss on 2.2 innings of work. Dynas Doud led the team with three hits.
ETBU will be on the road next weekend vs. Ozarks in ASC play. Game one will begin at 1:00 pm this Friday. Game two, a seven inning game, starts at 1:00 pm on Saturday while game three starts at 3:30 pm.
