Box Score MARSHALL, Texas – Using two home runs, plus a few more extra base hits, and strong pitching, the East Texas Baptist University baseball team muscled their way to a 9-2 win over McMurry University (3-7). With this win, ETBU stands at 10-3 overall and now has won two straight.
For ETBU, Josh Warbington led the way with two hits including a homer and a double for three RBI. Tyler Bates had two RBI on two hits and two runs scored while Dynas Doud would also have two RBI and two hits. On the mound, Ernest Perez went seven strong innings allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out six en route to pick up his fifth win of the season. Chad Boudreaux also pitched two innings of strong relief allowing one hit and striking out two.
For two innings, neither team would score. Then in the third, ETBU struck first when Bates would drive in Dylan Sumpter for a triple, but then he scored on an error on the same play to go up, 2-0. Following a scoreless fourth, Doud would drive in two more runs to give ETBU a 4-0 lead. Then in the sixth, on two straight pitches, Connor Combs and Warbington would tee off for back to back homers to increase the lead to 6-0.
Warbington would add to his RBI total with a two run double in the bottom of the seventh and the lead was 8-0. After McMurry tallied two in the eighth, Bates would give ETBU another insurance run to make it 9-2 in their favor. Boudreaux would finish the deal as ETBU picked up their tenth win of the season.
ETBU will have a double-header tomorrow as they play a seven-inning game one at 1:00 pm before they finish with a nine-inning game in game 3 at 3:30 pm.
