Box Score 2 MARSHALL, Texas – Splitting the double header at Woods Field, East Texas Baptist University took game one for their 11th win of the year but fell in the rubber match to McMurry University. ETBU made it two in row vs. the Warhawks with a 7-2 win in the first game but the fell, 3-2, in the final game of the series.
In game one, ETBU used three home runs and a sacrifice fly to beat McMurry 7-2. Josh Warbington (4 RBI), Zach Compton (1 RBI), and Kameron Sumrall (1 RBI) would each hit a home run in the game. Dynas Doud would also have a hit and an RBI in the game. On the mound, Kyle Loson got his third win of the season by going five innings allowing one run on two hits while striking out four and walking three. Jimmy Russo would get the save pitching two innings allowing one home run.
However, in game two, ETBU fell 3-2 in a nine-inning affair. Tyler Bates and Warbington would each homer for ETBU for the only two runs of the game. Connor Combs also have two hits to lead the team. Cody Pierce took the loss by going 6.1 innings allowing two runs on five hits and striking out four. Chad Boudreaux (one hit, one run, two Ks) and Russo (no runs, no hits, one strikeout) would each pitch an inning and a third to finish the day.
Game 1 – ETBU 7, McMurry 2
McMurry would score their first run in the first inning when they would load the bases and bring in a run when a player was hit by the pitch. ETBU's defense would prevent more trouble as they would get Loson out of the jam. For the second game in a row, ETBU would have back to back homers as Compton and Sumrall would do it this game to put the Tigers on top 2-1. In the third inning, Doud would deliver a sacrifice fly to score Dylan Sumpter making it 3-1.
Loson would get out of the jam in the fifth inning as McMurry loaded the bases but failed to score. In the sixth, ETBU loaded the bases as Warbington drilled a grand slam home run to make it 7-1. Russo would come in to pitch and despite giving up a solo homer in the seventh, he was able to finish the job and give ETBU their eleventh win of the season.
Game 2 – McMurry 3, ETBU 2
For the second game in a row, McMurry struck first with a run in the first inning on an RBI single. It wouldn't be until the bottom of the fifth inning when Warbington connected for a home run to tie the game at one. After a scoreless sixth inning, McMurry took advantage of a couple of errors by ETBU in the seventh inning to score two and grab a 3-1 lead. When Bates homered in the eighth, ETBU trailed 3-2. ETBU had the tying run at second base, but they were unable to drive him in as McMurry hung on for the win in the ninth inning.
ETBU will host Texas Dallas next weekend in an ASC series at Woods Field starting on Friday night at 7:00 p.m.
