Box Score SHREVEPORT, La. – The East Texas Baptist University baseball team stumbled at No. 16-ranked Centenary (La.) College, 6-3, on Friday night at Shehee Stadium. The loss moves ETBU's overall record to 16-9.
Offensively, leadoff hitter Dylan Sumpter went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI, while Conner Combs was 1-for-2 with two walks and a stolen base. On the mound for ETBU, Ernest Perez (7-2) went five-plus innings in the loss. He allowed six hits, six runs (five earned) and three walks. Perez also hit a pair of batters and struck out one.
ETBU scored the night's first run in the opening half inning to go ahead by a 1-0 margin. Sumpter hit a leadoff double to right-center, and four batters later crossed home plate on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Kameron Sumrall. Centenary would score the next half dozen runs, however, to claim a 6-1 edge heading into the top of the ninth inning. ETBU scored twice in the final half inning courtesy of a two-RBI single by Sumpter that plated Combs and Sumrall.
ETBU and Centenary conclude the three-game series with a Saturday doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
