Box Score LONGVIEW, Texas – The lucky number 10 was in effect as the East Texas Baptist University baseball team won their tenth game in a row by ten runs in a final score of 13-3 over LeTourneau University. Although the game was not a conference game, the win moves ETBU's record to 26-11.
ETBU was led by Zach Compton who drove in four RBI on two hits while Tyler Bates had two RBI on two hits. Dynas Doud had three hits along with an RBI while Conner Combs and Dylan Sumpter had two hits and one RBI each. Kyle Loson returned to start the game and he would get his fourth win on the season with five innings of work allowing a run on four hits and three strikeouts. Jacob Wadle (1.1 IP, two runs, one hit, two Ks) and Jordan O'Bannon (1.2 IP, two Ks) would each have relief appearances in the game while Kam Sumrall came in to close the game out striking out two batters.
ETBU struck first with two runs in the first inning when Bates would drive in Sumpter and Sumrall would add an RBI single. In the second inning, an RBI double by Sumpter, a sac fly by Sumrall, and a double steal made it 5-0. Combs would make it 6-0 with his fourteenth homer of the year in the third inning. The Yellow Jackets would get a run in the bottom half of the third to make it 6-1.
In the fourth inning, Compton's RBI single and two-base error led to another run making it 7-1. The Tigers would then add three runs on RBI singles by Doud and Compton in the fifth. Two scoreless innings later, LeTourneau would pick up two runs to make it a 10-3 affair. ETBU would their lead to ten on an RBI groundout by Brooks Lloyd, a sacrifice fly by Bates and a bases loaded walk. ETBU would send Sumrall to close out the ninth inning and preserve the win.
ETBU will close out their regular season with their last three conference games on the road against Louisiana College. The games will be on Friday at 6:00 pm and Saturday's doubleheader will be at 1:00 pm and 3:30 pm.
