Box Score 2 PINEVILLE, Louisiana – In a rare Friday doubleheader this season, the East Texas Baptist University baseball split their doubleheader against Louisiana College. The split puts ETBU at 27-12 and 17-6 in the American Southwest Conference. ETBU is still in contention for the ASC Championship.
Game one saw ETBU extend their winning streak to 11 games with a 6-3 win. Dylan Sumpter and Dynas Doud (HR) led the way with two hits each with an RBI. Kam Sumrall would have three RBI on a three-run home run. Ashley Dukes got the win with 6.1 innings pitched allowing three runs on seven hits and five strikeouts. Jimmy Russo would get his eighth save of the season retiring the last two outs of the game.
But the winning streak came to an end as ETBU dropped a 6-1 decision to the Wildcats. ETBU compiled only four hits while Brice Winter had the only RBI for the Tigers. Ernest Perez took his third loss of the season by going seven innings allowing three runs on seven hits and six strikeouts. Chad Boudreaux would also get an inning of work in, allowing three runs on two hits.
Game 1 – ETBU 6, LC 3
Doud would start the game with a solo shot in the first inning. The Wildcats would claim the lead in the bottom of the second on a single and a wild pitch making it 2-1 after two innings. But in the third, Sumrall would drill his homer, which was his eighth on the season and 60th on the year for ETBU. Sumpter in the fourth would drive in a run and score on a wild pitch making it 6-2 in ETBU's favor. The Wildcats would get another run in the bottom of the fourth before ETBU's pitching held them down for the remainder of the game.
Game 2 – LC 6, ETBU
After a scoreless first, an RBI groundout by Brice Winter gave ETBU an early 1-0 lead. However, LC would answer in the bottom of the third with a two-run double and an RBI single making it 3-1. The Wildcats attempted to add more insurance runs in the fifth inning. But ETBU's defense kept the deficit at two. Meanwhile, their offense was held down by the pitching of Trey Ducote, who through six innings allowed one run on two hits.
ETBU threatened in the seventh with two runners on base, but they were unable to drive them in. LC would extend the lead to 6-1 on a three run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning. ETBU did have runners in scoring position in the ninth, but again, they couldn't capitalize on the opportunity and their winning streak came to an end.
