SHREVEPORT, Louisiana – Continuing a winning streak that has now reached four games in a row, the East Texas Baptist University hockey team swept the University of North Texas Mean Green in two games on Friday and Saturday. ETBU has now won seven of their last eight matches after dropping the first two of the year and post a 7-3 overall record.
 
Game 1: ETBU 2, North Texas 1
Game one was a classic hockey game, which saw ETBU hang on to a 2-1 win. Nearly three minutes into the contest, Riley Knott took an assist from Carson Combs on a two-on-one to put the Tigers ahead. For the next 49 minutes, goaltender Nick Buzzuto kept UNT off the scoresheet while ETBU piled up more chances to score. But UNT goaltender Tanner Holmes kept the game 1-0 through two periods.
 
UNT finally broke through 11 minutes in the third period to tie it at one. But the tie wouldn't last as Jimmy Brosnan answered nearly a minute later giving ETBU a 2-1 lead. For the remaining eight minutes, Buzzuto and ETBU's defense made sure they kept the lead. With three seconds left, UNT had a chance to tie it and scored. But the goal was disallowed because it went in after time expired and ETBU got the win.
 
Game 2: ETBU 7, North Texas 2
ETBU would have a scoring spree in the first period as Michael Garvie got the scoring started with a goal eight and a half minutes in. Just 40 seconds later, Albert Wiggins made it 2-0. ETBU would get the third goal from Drake Evans with 6:12 left in the first period. In the second period, Garvie would tack on two more goals for a hat trick to make it 5-0.
 
UNT finally broke the shutout to start the third period on a goal by Justin Bell. But Garvie responded with his fourth goal of the game. After UNT team captain Andrew Keane scored the Mean Green's second goal of the game, ETBU would make a seventh goal late in the third courtesy of Ben Goodwin.
 
The 7-3 Tigers will wait until October 13-14 when they return to Shreveport to take on Dallas Baptist University. Friday's game begins at 2:00 PM while Saturday's contest will start at 11:30 AM.
