@ETBU_Hockey Sweeps SMU

RICHARDSON, Texas – In a wild scoring weekend, the East Texas Baptist University hockey team swept Southern Methodist University by outscoring the Mustangs 18-10. ETBU won both games, 8-6, on Friday and, 10-4, on Saturday. ETBU is now riding a ten-game winning streak as they have their record up to 13-3.
 
Game 1: ETBU 8, SMU 6
In a wild first period that saw the teams combining for five goals, ETBU struck first with two goals in a span of ten seconds by Skyler Spiller (4:43) and Jimmy Brosnan (4:53). But thirty-six seconds later, Conner McGovern got SMU on the board to trail 2-1. ETBU would pick up their third goal by Riley Knott (10:04) before McGovern scored five minutes later at 15:34 to have it 3-2, which would be the score after one period.
 
SMU tied the game at 3-3 in the second period on an unassisted goal by William Clark (5:36). But ETBU's second period would be the difference in the game as they would score three goals. Dylan Legarie would recapture the lead at 4-3 at 9:17. Spiller would add his second goal of the game at 12:24 before Heath Bouma (13:53) would make it 6-3.
 
The third period was scoreless for the first half before McGovern scored a hat trick goal (11:31) to trail 6-4. Brendan Sedgwick (13:45) pushed the lead back to three at 7-4. The Mustangs would cut the lead to 7-6 on two goals by Ben Brower (16:00, 17:32) before Michael Garvie sealed the victory with a late goal at 19:22.

Game 2: ETBU 10, SMU 4
ETBU dominated the first period with three goals as Hunter Matthews struck first for the Tigers at 3:14. Spiller would then score the second goal at 9:54 before Carson Combs (17:25) made it 3-0 after the first period. SMU would get their first goal in the second period by Emmanuel Lindstroem Eriksson at 1:25 in. Nearly seventeen scoreless minutes passed before Knott would give ETBU the three goal lead back at 18:12. ETBU would lead 4-1 after two.
 
Nine goals would be scored in the third period by both teams. William Olson started the scoring at 2:26. But ETBU would score the next four goals from Sedgwick (3:52) and a hat trick by Garvie (7:18, 7:28, 11:34) to lead 8-2. SMU's next goal came from Michael Keane (12:28) to trail 8-3. Spiller (16:50) and Brosnan (17:27) would tack on to ETBU's lead to 10-3 before Olson tallied the fourth goal with four seconds to spare in the 10-4 win.
 
ETBU will resume the season on December 1-2 when they travel to Austin to take on the University of Texas at 8:50 PM and 4:00 PM respectively.
