#TIGERSWIN: ETBU Explodes for 21 Runs in Win Over JCC

MARSHALL, Texas – The bats were not slowed down by the cold weather as the East Texas Baptist University baseball team put up 20 hits en route to a 21-7 win over Jarvis Christian College. ETBU improves to 3-4 overall this season while JCC falls to 7-7.

Logan Sprinkle picked up his first win of the season to improve to 1-0. Sprinkle pitched 4.2 innings in relief allowing just three hits and one run, striking out five in the process. 12 different Tigers recorded a hit in the contest, led by Landen Barns and Jaxon Rader with three hits each. Conner Combs, Zach Compton, Zach Gartner, and Brice Winter picked up two hits each. Brooks Lloyd, Josh Warbington, Zach Ervin, Mason Aldredge, and Casey Combs each picked up one hit each.

Jaxon Rader led the way with four runs scored followed by Sumpter and Winter with three runs each. Casey Combs, Barns, and Gartner had two runs apiece. Conner Combs, Compton, Aldredge, Ervin, and Lloyd each scored one run each.  

Barns led the way with seven runs batted in, launching a three-run homerun in the process, his second of the season. Dylan Sumpter hit a two-run homerun for his first long ball of the season, and Zach Gartner hit a solo homerun for his first of the season as well. ETBU hit .476 as a team in the game (20-42), and a .600 on-base percentage. ETBU scored in six of the eight innings in which they batted.

JCC picked up 11 hits as a team, and got on base 20 times total. Phillip Griego was tagged with the loss, pitching 1.2 innings and allowing six runs (four earned) on four hits. DeAndre McGuire, Spencer Thomas, Ryan Emerald, and Romeo Romero each had two hits in the loss. JCC used seven different pitchers throughout the game.

ETBU will take an eight day hiatus as they will resume play next weekend when they travel to LeTourneau University for their American Southwest Conference opening weekend. The games will be played at 6:00 p.m. Friday night, and a double header starting at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
