LONGVIEW, Texas – In a hard fought, grind-it-out double header, the East Texas Baptist University baseball team swept Saturday's games over LeTourneau University, 6-1, and 8-6. Along with the win on Friday, ETBU swept the entire series from LeTourneau, which puts them at 6-4 overall and 3-0 in American Southwest Conference play.

Game one's seven-inning affair saw ETBU win 6-1. Derrick Findley (1-1) was the top player as he pitched five innings allowing one run on three hits while striking out nine batters. Game 1 – ETBU 6, LETU 1

Much like Friday night, the first three innings were scoreless. LETU did threaten with the bases loaded in the bottom of the first before Findley got two big strikeouts. In the fifth inning, ETBU put two runners on by a single from Mason Aldredge and a hit by pitch to Casey Combs. After two more outs, Rader popped up to what would've been an inning-ending out. However, Harlan dropped the ball and two runs would score to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead. In the sixth, LETU would put two runners on before Sprinkle came in to pitch. An ETBU error loaded the bases for LETU, but after a pop up and a fielder's choice, the Tigers were one strike out from getting out of the frame when a catcher's interference gave the Yellow Jackets their first run of the game. The Tigers escaped with a 2-1 lead after six.

In the seventh inning, ETBU loaded the bases for Barns, who singled and reached third on a two-base error scoring three runs. Barns however was thrown out trying to stretch for an in-the-park home run. On the next pitch, Conner Combs drilled a solo home run to put ETBU up 6-1. Sprinkle shut the door on LETU in the seventh inning winning game one.

Game 2 – ETBU 8, LETU 6

The Tigers jumped first when Conner Combs delivered an RBI single scoring Rader. However, the Yellow Jackets answered with five runs of their own in the bottom of the first In the second inning, Rader doubled in Aldredge and Dylan Sumpter to cut the lead to 5-3. For the next couple of innings, Pollard held his own as he kept LETU off the scoreboard. In the fifth, LETU got two on base before Loson was called in to pitch and record the final two outs of the inning.

The sixth inning saw ETBU storm back as Gartner led off with a single to left while Brice Winter walked. Following a wild pitch ball four to Robey, which scored Gartner, Lakey was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Sumpter grounded out to second to tie the game at five. Then Rader hit another grounder, which scored Robey and ETBU had the lead 6-5. In the seventh, Gartner's double scored Zach Compton while Robey singled in the second run of the inning to give ETBU an 8-5 edge.

LETU would go silent in the seventh and eighth. But in the ninth, LETU put together a two-out rally with an error, a walk, and a catcher's interference to load the bases. Boudreaux came in to pitch, but hit the next batter to score the run cutting the lead to 8-6. Sprinkle came in for the third time this series and in just two pitches, he got the last hitter to fly out to center completing the sweep.

ETBU will have a doubleheader Tuesday at Woods Field vs. the University of Dallas. Game one starts at 1:00 PM while the second game will follow at 4:00 PM.
