RECAP: ETBU Drops Extra Inning Games at UMHB.

BELTON, Texas – In two tightly contested games, the East Texas Baptist University baseball team drops the series against the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. UMHB won the first game in extra inning 3-2, and the second game in 13 innings 5-4.  

GAME 1

ETBU scored first in the top of the on a Josh Warbington single to score Casey Combs. Dylan Sumpter helped ETBU regain the lead when he scored on a wild pitch. UMHB would tie the game in the bottom of the fourth inning on a double to right center. The game would remain scoreless until the bottom of the ninth when UMHB scored on a wild pitch to score the winning run.

In the game there were nine hits total with ETBU only having three hits. Warbington led the way for ETBU with one hit and one RBI. Conner Combs and Zach Gartner each had one hit each. Garrett Penny pitched 6.1 innings and allowed one run on four hits.

UMHB was led by Mitch Patterson and Dakota Best with two hits each. Aaron Barteau picked up the win for UMHB, pitching 0.2 innings in relief to pick up his second win of the season.

GAME 2

ETBU scored first off a double from Conner Combs, scoring Zach Compton and Landen Barns. Jaxon Rader singled home Sumpter to give ETBU a 3-0 lead. Compton would steal home extending the ETBU lead to 4-0. UMHB would get three runs back and cut the ETBU lead to 4-3. UMHB tied the game in the sixth with an RBI single. UMHB would score in the bottom of the thirteenth inning to win on their second walkoff of the day and win the game 5-4.

ETBU was led by Rader who had three hits. Barns would record two hits, and three other Tigers each recorded one hit. Conner Combs led the Tigers with two runs batted in, and Rader recorded the other run batted it. Chad Boudreaux was tagged with the loss for ETBU.

Best led the way with four hits for UMHB, and Caleb Davis picked up three hits in the win. Jacob Krzemin picked his first win of the season with a one inning shutout inning.

ETBU moves to 10-8 overall and 4-2 in American Southwest Conference action. UMHB improves to 5-8 and 3-3 in conference play. ETBU will return to action this weekend with a home series with against Louisiana College on Friday and Saturday.
