SHREVEPORT, La. – Pushing hard against a strong University of Mississippi team, the East Texas Baptist University hockey team came up short in the second game in 24 hours against the Rebels, 8-4. ETBU was down early, 5-1, but battled back to within two in the game.
In the first period, Ole Miss took a 3-1 lead. Ole Miss scored back-to-back goals for a 2-0 lead within two minutes of each other late in period. ETBU netted their first goal by
Skyler Spiller with 3:15 left to cut it to a one-goal game, 2-1. Less than a minute later, Ole Miss scored again to make it 3-1. Ole Miss then scored quickly in the second period just 30 seconds in for a 4-1 lead. Then, at the 18:44 mark, Ole Miss made it 5-1. Four minutes later,
Albert Wiggins gave ETBU their second goal of the game cutting the lead to three, 5-2. Just over a minute later,
Carson Combs netted his first goal of the year at the 13:18 mark to pull within two, 5-3, on a power play goal. Ole Miss then scored with 2:53 left in the period to make it 6-3.
ETBU fought back in the third period to come within two, again, at the 13:58 mark on a goal by
Jimmy Brosnan. Ole Miss then scored back-to-back goals at the 4:41 mark and 3:38 mark for the 8-4 win.
ETBU travels to Austin, Texas, September 8-9, to face Texas State.
