MARSHALL, Texas- Opening the season in dominant fashion, the East Texas Baptist University softball team will open the American Southwest Conference portion of their schedule with a matchup with the University of the Ozarks starting with a doubleheader on Friday, March 16 and concluding on Saturday, March 17. ETBU returns to Taylor Field after a two-game sweep of Trinity University on Tuesday, March 13. Entering conference play, ETBU is currently 12-3 overall and 6-0 in ASC games this season.
Leading the way for the Tigers is
Linzie Lewis. Lewis leads ETBU with a batting average of .500 along with a slugging percentage of 77.1. Lewis also has collected 20 RBI, 24 hits and scored 17 runs on the year.
Morgan Arst has the most runs scored for ETBU, with 23.
MacKenzie Anderson sits at second place in runs scored, with 18 on the season. Anderson does hold the lead in bases stolen, with nine total.
Sabrina Salts is the big time home run hitter for the Tigers. The second year first baseman has totaled five home runs this season to go along with 38 total bases and 12 runs scored.
Rocki Tello leads the pitching effort for the Tigers, racking up six wins in eight appearances in the circle.
Jordan Anderson has recorded the most strike outs this season, sending away 56 batters overall.
In the last meeting with the Ozarks, ETBU came away with the 3-0 sweep in Clarksville, Ark. Entering Friday's matchup, OU is 3-10 overall and 3-6 in ASC play this season. The Ozarks come into Taylor Field riding the momentum of a three-game winning streak, sweeping Howard Payne University in a three-game series on March 9.
Following the Tiger's last victory, Arst talked about the team's versatility heading into the ASC matchup this weekend.
"I think our lineup is so cool this year, because literally 1-9 is capable of doing great things. We know that if someone isn't doing great that day the next person can come and pick them up. We're excited for our game against the Ozarks this weekend," Arst said.
ETBU will kick-off game one of a three-game set with a double-header on Friday, March 16 at 6:00 p.m. from Taylor Field.
