Box Score TYLER, Texas - A quiet offense could not figure out the University of Texas-Tyler pitching as the East Texas Baptist University baseball team fell 7-0 to the Patriots. The Tigers are now even at .500 with a 7-7 record.
Zach Gartner led ETBU with two hits in the game while
Jeremy Bateman,
Zachary McAdams, and
Drew Helberg each picked up a hit in the game.
Blake Corbin took the loss for ETBU by going 5.1 IP allowing six runs (four earned) on nine hits while striking out four. Bowie Farris was UTT's top producer with two hits and two RBI while Blake Wilson, Blake Maddox, Jordan Antley (two runs scored), and Jared Pauley also had two hits. Ryan Cheatham pitched seven shutout innings allowing four hits and striking out five to pick up the win.
ETBU would pick up one hit on a Gartner single in the top of the first inning, but couldn't get anything else. An ETBU error with two outs in the bottom of the first allowed the Patriots to score the first run of the game. One inning later, back-to-back RBI singles by UTT made the score 3-0 in their favor. The game stayed 3-0 before ETBU threatened with a one-out double by McAdams. However, ETBU was kept off the board again as a pop out to first and a line drive to right ended the threat.
UTT then picked up three runs in the sixth inning and on in the seventh to up their lead to 7-0. ETBU would put together a two-out rally in the eighth inning with back-to-back walks to Bateman and Combs before Gartner was hit by a pitch. But again, ETBU could not capitalize as the bases were left loaded. UTT pitching hung on for the shutout in the ninth inning.
ETBU will have their doubleheader tomorrow against UTT at 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM.
