MARSHALL, Texas – Splitting their series with Auburn University last weekend, the East Texas Baptist University hockey team will resume their six-game home stand as they will host Texas State University this weekend on Friday and Saturday. ETBU has only four games left this season at George's Pond.
Last weekend, ETBU welcomed the University of Auburn to George's Pond and won the final game on Saturday. ETBU fell on Friday night in a 5-4 overtime shootout while Saturday saw a win over Auburn, 9-3.
Filip Soderstrom was ETBU's top performer scoring five goals and collecting five assists in the two games. His performance earned him the first award for the hockey team as Texas Collegiate Hockey Conference Player of the Week.
Sitting at 9-11 overall, ETBU is 8-8 in the North Division of the TCHC League. This puts them second behind Dallas Baptist University, who remain on top at 11-4. Collectively, ETBU averages 6.6 goals per game for 321 total points while their goaltenders combine to have a goals against average of 4.45.
Michael Garvie remains ETBU's leader and fifth in the league in points (49), which includes 22 goals and 27 assists.
Riley Knott and Davis VanGemerden each have a team-leading 23 goals.
Tyler Fitzgerald has won four of ETBU's nine games while
Alex Domas has a team low GAA of 3.23.
This week, ETBU (9-11) takes on Texas State, who currently has four wins on the season. The Tigers swept the Bobcats in last year's contests by two scores of 9-2. Leading TSU in points overall, including 16 goals, is Jacob Kolodziejski. Ryan Dupre is at the top of the assists lead with 11 on the season. In goal, Matthew Padgett has won all four games making 80.4% of saves while allowing 131 goals.
Both games will be at George's Pond at 2:00 PM on Friday and Saturday. Friday's game will occur before the Shreveport Mudbugs contest.
