#TIGERSWIN: @ETBU_Hockey Sweeps Texas State

SHREVEPORT, La. – Dominating both meetings with timely scoring and controlled defense, the East Texas Baptist University hockey outscored the Texas State University Bobcats 27-7 in the two-game series to complete a sweep. ETBU is currently on a three-game winning streak and now post an 11-11 overall record
 
Game one saw ETBU put together a 9-1 rally following a 2-2 tie as they steamrolled the Bobcats 11-3. Davis Van Gemerden had a game for the ages as he scored six goals while Filip Soderstrom and Riley Knott would tally two goals apiece. In game two, the Tigers took care of business winning 16-4. Knott would lead the way with five goals while Van Gemerden also had a hat trick.
 
Game 1 - ETBU 11, TSU 3
Period one was evenly-matched as the teams combined for five goals. The Bobcats struck first with a goal from Topher Harding (17:06). But ETBU would get two unanswered from Van Gemerden (12:15, 6:58) to go up 2-1. TSU answered with an equalizing goal from Colton Tyran to tie the game. But momentum would then swing in ETBU's favor starting with a goal from Soderstrom (2:24) to give the Tigers a 3-2 lead after one. Van Gemerden then dominated the second period for the Tigers as he would score three goals (17:30, 12:47, 12:09) improving ETBU's lead to 6-2.
 
TSU started period three with a goal from Mikey Vrabel (14:41) to end ETBU's run of four straight scores. But ETBU would end this contest with five straight goals as Knott would score twice (13:01, 11:50) including a power play goal while Van Gemerden's sixth goal (10:40) was also a power play goal. Soderstrom (12:48) and Mason Sprott (9:26) would see the final tallies as ETBU came out with an 11-3 victory.
 
Game 2 – ETBU 16, TSU 4
ETBU seized control in the first part of the period when Wiggins (17:54), Spiller (15:35) and Scheenan (10:00) each notched a goal to make it 3-0. TSU's chances were stopped by ETBU goaltender Tyler Fitzgerald for the next six minutes before Knott would capitalize on the power play goal at 3:57. Devon Baird (2:18) and Soderstrom (1:14) would manage goals of their own to make it 6-0 after one period. 
 
Seven goals were scored in the second period between the two teams with Baird scoring his second (18:28) to make it seven straight goals to start the match and 12 unanswered since the third period from the night before. The Bobcats finally got on the board at 15:55 only to see Van Gemerden answer thirty-six seconds later. ETBU would pick up two short-handed goals from Knott (12:10) and Van Gemerden (2:12) while TSU picked up two power play goals (10:56, 1:20), which made the score 10-3 through two periods.
The Tigers outscored TSU 6-1 in the third period, which included three power play goals.  Knott (16:53, 9:19, 3:44) was responsible for two of the power plays while Van Gemerden (6:10) had the other. TSU's lone third period goal came on a power play with 10:55 left while Soderstrom (13:14) and Spiller (4:45) would tack on two more goals for the Tigers preserving the win.
 
ETBU will host Texas Christian University at George's Pond next weekend with Friday night being at 10:00 PM while Saturday will start at 2:00 PM.
