On Sunday morning, the team split into groups and attended four different churches throughout Bratislava, which included a local Baptist church, a Lutheran church, and two non-denominational churches. After church, several of the players were able to experience daily life in Slovakia and enjoyed lunch in the homes of a few gracious church members.
In the afternoon, the team reconvened at a local hockey rink and conducted a two-hour hockey clinic for the children and families in the community, which was sponsored by the local Baptist church. The players were able to teach children and adults how to skate, stick handle, shoot, and pass.
After dinner, the Baptist church hosted the team for an evening of praise, worship, and testimonies, where senior
Skyler Spiller and freshman
Tyler Fitzgerald shared. Both players shared their personal testimonies to the congregation, which was a very moving service for everyone in attendance.
"Experiencing a different cultures daily life and religion was a great experience, especially for myself, comparing my past experience in Sweden. Being able to give back to the community by skating with the young children, then the opportunity to have lunch at the church member's home and getting to know a little about them made for a great day. I have met some great people today and made some friendships that will last a lifetime. The hockey has been amazing as well. This trip has been a experience that I will always remember,"
Tyler Fitzgerald, a freshmen from Ontario, Canada.
On Monday, the team will travel to Vienna for two service projects and a sightseeing tour.
