There is nothing better than getting the opportunity to visit two different countries in one trip. Today we had the privilege of seeing he beautiful city of Vienna, Austria. While our friends and family back home were winding down and getting ready for bed, we were up bright and early at 6:30 AM on the other side of the world.
Our day started with an hour drive from Bratislava to Vienna, where we had a traditional Austrian breakfast at a local church provided by interns from the USA, who work with Project Vienna, a Baptist student ministry based in Vienna.
From there we began our tour of Vienna, which included a scavenger hunt. We were split into three groups and given specific tasks to perform across the city. You can only imagine how insane a team of North American hockey players look doing hilarious tasks in a completely different country across the world.
Once the team met back up for lunch, we were able to tell each other about the different landmarks we came across. After lunch we continued our tour of Vienna as a team and got to see some amazing history along the way. You hear so much about different historical landmarks as children in school, but it is a totally different thing to actually see them in person.
The highlight of the day came after dinner when we were blessed to hear the testimony of a refugee from Iran. We learned about his faith and how he came to know Christ and how He is continuing to work in his life each and everyday. After losing his father for pursuing Christianity, he was at a loss and with no religion, had nowhere else to go. After being betrayed by his mother, he found himself in Vienna at a church that introduced Christ to him. Since that time, he has started living for Him in his everyday life and continues to use his story to impact people across the world.
We were all touched by his story and the trials and tribulations that he has faced as a young believe from Iran.
Tomorrow we will have a team practice in the morning followed by a few different service projects around Bratislava. Thank you for your prayers this week as we strive to show Christ's love.
